ABOUT DUNDO
“Dundo” are the Tanzanian drummer, singer, guitarist and compos
er Stanley Nicholaus Gaare (aka Stanart), currently a student of
Jazz at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and the
Ticinese bass player and producer Gustavo Moi (aka Badan), who
has worked in genres from Big Band to Electronic Noise.
Stanart and Badan met at a jam session with friends in December
2023 and proceeded to work together. In June 2024 they founded
the band “Dundo” and had their first concert.
Dundo is a Kiswahili word that translates into “strong beat, rhyth
mic thumping and deep drum-like sound,” and exactly these are
the roots of Dundo’s music. This duo is creating a fusion of loop
based music and independent pop, while being authentically
centered around Tanzanian traditional rhythms, Soul, Jazz and
electronic music. The songs are mostly based on compositions
by Stanart and his unique style of playing the guitar and singing.
After producing loops of the guitar, Stanart and Badan find drum
patterns and bass lines to these riffs.
SOUND
The drums are always unique and catchy. The bass stays precise
and hypnotic. The songs are enriched with electronic samples and
diverse musical elements. The focus is always on tight rhythm and
interesting sonic ambience, while allowing for improvisational ele
ments. Their live performances are very joyous events. The music
invites everybody to dance. Stanart often engages with the crowd
and gets them to sing along. His lyrics are focused on a positive
attitude towards life and a celebration of existence
